Efficacy of group-based CBT-I with adjunctive bright light therapy in youths with insomnia and eveningness: Results from a randomised controlled trial
Date:
In this symposium, I presented our most recent randomized controlled trial on group-based CBT-I with and without bright light therapy for youths with insomnia and eveningness.
We found that both treatments significantly improved insomnia and mood, with effects sustained at six months. In addition, adjunctive bright light therapy further advanced circadian timing, though differences between the two active treatments were not statistically significant. Mediation analyses showed that improvements in sleep partially explained mood gains. The findings suggest that group-based CBT-I is effective for youth with insomnia and eveningness, and that BLT may offer added circadian benefits, though pragmatic trials are needed to assess real-world feasibility and cost-effectiveness
